@FesterBable Yes, but sometimes wooden doors are not in people’s budgets or they have a wood door they would like to reuse, instead of buying new. Often times it is code that you have to use a steel door between the garage and living space.

How about simply using a wooden door? Wouldn’t that be easier?

@JeanieBristerDesign
hi. i want to do a faux wood grain finish on a wall. i have a wood graining tool already, but, if i’m doing a whole wall, wouldn’t i need to create a faux finish to show the length of the wood pieces? i.e., wood planks aren’t the height of the wall are they

@JeanieBristerDesign You don’t need to strip the paint because you are starting with a light color. Follow the graining instructions on this video or on the tool package and you will get the same look as wood.

I want to do my triming and baseboards with a wood look. They are covered with years on white paint. Can someone help me with ideas for doing this. or can I just follow the shown video and just do the same thing for my project???

You can turn the tool around for a different effect, you just need to play around until you get the look you are looking for. The more stain you apply, the darker the panels will become.

Is there a brush that makes it look like Mahogany? And how do I darken inside edges of panel? Thanks.

The video is good although he forgot to mention that when ever you are doing faux or just painting over a door in this case, you should always lightly sand the surface, it helps the paint to stick or in this case the stain, just use fine sand paper or even better a sanding sponge, just make sure is fine grade, the other thing i always do is clear coat the first coat, than you don’t have to worry about rubbing the stain off.

I actually have a small vanity that I believe is fiberglass, I want to try this on it.

@psychobunny32 paint it a lighter brown first

Yes, please wait another 24 hours. When you applying the ZAR Wood Stain to metal, it is very sensitive to temperature and humidity because all fo the stain is staying on the surface and not soaking into the wood. So, although it is tempting, wait until the stain is no longer sticky before top coating.
2:34 pm on January 25th, 2012
It has been more than 24 hours. But the first coat on the metal is still sticky. If I touch with my finger, the wood stain sticks on it. Should I wait until completely dry before applying the polyurethane?
2:54 pm on January 25th, 2012
@vancity01 No, once you grain the door, allow to dry 24hours – next apply the tone coat, let that dry for 24 hours, than you can apply the seal coat.
2:58 pm on January 25th, 2012
Dont you need to seal the first coat of stain be for applying a second coat!!!
3:08 pm on January 25th, 2012
Recommendations on the exterior is 2 to 3 coats, more would give you added protection. After you have done all that work to make your door look great, follow the directions on the poly label so you can protect that finish as best as possible. More coats offer more protection.

Can I apply just one coat of polyurethane on the door (exterior and interior)?

Will do this work on plastic? I’m planing on redesign a nerf longshot shot to make it a Steampunk sniper rifle. If anyone read this comment, can you please tell me. Als if you’re a steampunk fan, can you give me any tips on how to give the nerf longshot a steampunk feel. I want to make it look a WWII rifle

Prime it with a light color primer paint and grain over, once the paint is dry.
5:17 pm on January 25th, 2012
what to do if door is already painted dark brown color?
5:58 pm on January 25th, 2012
Great video!!…Do I have to put a base coat of mustard color before applying the stain and creating the wood grains?
6:30 pm on January 25th, 2012
Yes, ZAR Wood Stain is perfect for hardwood floors.
7:27 pm on January 25th, 2012
can i use this to paint the floor?
7:58 pm on January 25th, 2012
Yes, you would need to start with a white or light color paint so you could see the graining.
